Et stigende antal bilister er de senere år valfartet til Aalborg Lufthavn – og nogle har valgt netop denne lufthavn, fordi her har været over 5.000 gratis ppladser. Men efter kritik i Jyllands-Posten for hykleri og greenwashing er det nu slut. Fra 20. april koster det mindst 20 kr. i døgnet at parkere i lufthavnen, oplyser lufthavnsdirektør Niels Hemmingsen.
Kritikken har bl.a. handlet om, at både Aalborg Lufthavn og Aalborg Kommune, der er hovedaktionær i lufthaven, har gjort meget ud af at fortælle, at man er både grøn, bæredygtig og klimavenlig, samt at kommunen ønsker at begrænse den individuelle biltrafik og fremme kollektiv trafik. På den anden side mener kritikerne, der bl.a. tæller den grønne tænketank Concito, at når den jernbane, der er brugt 300 mio. kr. på at bygge, er fyldt med stort set tomme tog, så hænger det sammen med, at de fleste kunder hellere vil køre til lufthavnen i bil end med tog, på grund af den gratis parkering. Og at det har tiltrukket kunder fra store dele af Jylland. Lufthavnsdirektør Niels Hemmingsen forklarer, at betalingsparkeringen handler om at gøre lufthavnen mere attraktiv og relevant og at skaffe midler til at etablere endnu bedre forhold for de rejsende samt at udvikle infrastrukturen mere.
»Det har ikke været bæredygtighed og klimahensyn, der har været drivkraften bag, selv om vi naturligvis tænker bæredygtighed og klima ind i alt det, vi laver,« fastslår Niels Hemmingsen. Han understreger samtidig, at beslutningen om at indføre betalingsparkering ikke skyldes et politisk pres fra de politiske medlemmer af lufthavnens bestyrelse. »Det har været lufthavnens eget ønske,« siger
lufthavnsdirektøren. »Så må tiden vise, om flere vil vælge at komme ud i lufthavnen med tog.«
